Nestled in the heart of the Scottish Borders, just a short drive from Edinburgh, Stobo Castle is more than just a spa hotel; it's one of Scotland's most iconic and indulgent destination spa experiences. What are the Accommodation Options at Stobo Castle?
Rooms range from classic singles to expansive suites. Each one is designed with comfort and style, and most have breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. They are all as unquiet as the castle itself, and the utmost care is taken in each and every room. This is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in, and I am very well-travelled.
Deluxe Rooms and Their Features
I stayed in a deluxe room, it was spacious, quiet, and featured two plush beds, a large shower with bath, and high-end touches like Pentaligon toiletries, which smell divine. There’s even a welcome gift of a box of shortbread and a stocked tea station with their own loose tea, no less, and a Nespresso machine. The only thing that was missing, in my opinion, was a mini fridge. There are two waters beside your bed also.
A Closer Look at the Lennox Room
The Lennox Room is an absolute gem at Stobo Castle. I have now stayed in this room twice, and from my memory, it hasn't lost its charm. With sweeping views of the picturesque Scottish landscape, this room combines elegance with comfort. The décor is classic yet cosy, featuring rich fabrics, two large beds, you’ll melt into, and high ceilings that make the space feel airy and regal. What stood out most to me was the tranquil ambience, it’s ideal for a romantic getaway or solo retreat or a girls' trip. The bathroom is equally impressive, with a luxurious bath with over overhead shower and premium pentaligons amenities in the intoxicating scent of Halfeti. I am buying a bottle of this next time I am in London. If you're looking to upgrade your experience, the Lennox Room delivers in every way. I really think this room is lovely and very well thought out. I have to mention the Dyson hair dryer. This was a lovely and unexpected touch.

Dining Etiquette at Stobo
One of the things I loved about Stobo is how effortlessly they blend comfort with elegance. During breakfast and lunch, it's completely acceptable, and even encouraged, to wear your robe and slippers straight from the spa. It adds to the relaxed, easy-going atmosphere of your stay. However, for dinner, guests are asked to dress smart-casual. It’s a lovely way to transition into the more refined evening experience in the candlelit dining room. I really enjoyed this aspect of the trip.
Dining at Stobo Castle
The dining experience at Stobo Castle is just as refined as the surroundings. Meals are served in a beautifully appointed dining room with views across the grounds. The menu features a mix of light, healthy options and indulgent dishes, all crafted with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The food here alone is a reason to book a trip to Stobo. I have had the pleasure of eating at a few Mitchlin Star restaurants and I can find no differnt in quility here. The chef or team of chefs I should say, are wonderful and really understand food quility, and this shows in every meal. Do not worry if you are travelling with someone with an allergy like I was; this is fully taken care of and was confirmed at every meal.
Breakfast
Mornings at Stobo start with a relaxing breakfast spread. Guests can enjoy a full Scottish breakfast, continental options, or lighter choices like fresh fruit, yoghurt, porridge, and homemade granola. There’s table service, and everything is freshly made to order. I especially enjoyed the eggs Benedict and the strong, rich coffee.
Lunch
Lunch is a laid-back but elegant affair. You can choose from hearty soups, vibrant salads, and daily specials that cater to both wellness-focused and indulgent appetites. Portions are generous but well-balanced, and there's always a vegetarian or plant-based option available. A glass of crisp white wine on the side made it feel like a true treat.
Dinner
Dinner at Stobo is a true highlight. The evening menu is refined and varied, featuring beautifully cooked meats, fish, and creative vegetarian dishes. I had a perfectly cooked fillet of beef. The desserts were just as impressive, don’t miss the lemon cheesecake. The ambience in the dining room in the evening is peaceful, with candlelit tables and impeccable service.
The Dining Experience.
I especially appreciated the balance, whether you're in the mood to indulge or keep things clean and fresh, there’s something for everyone. The service was friendly yet discreet, and the wine list includes a great mix of Scottish and international bottles to complement your meal.
From hearty breakfasts to elegant evening dinners, every bite feels like a treat at Stobo They are just getting the balance right. No matter what you are looking for, you are catered to. The athlete in me wanted to make healthy choices, but the blogger in me knew this was not an opportunity to shy away from some wonderful flavours and choices.
The Cocktail Bar
The cocktail bar at Stobo Castle is a perfect spot to unwind before or after dinner. It offers an impressive selection of classic and creative cocktails, fine wines, and premium spirits. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing gin and tonic made with local botanicals or something indulgent like an espresso martini, the bar staff are happy to recommend and customise drinks to suit your taste. The ambience is relaxed and elegant, with comfortable seating and soft lighting that encourages you to linger a little longer. It’s a lovely way to round off a spa-filled day, perhaps with a glass of champagne or a Stobo signature cocktail in hand.

My Honest Review
Stobo Castle is everything I hoped it would be and more. It's not just a spa trip, it’s a full-on mind, body, and soul reset in one of the most luxurious, relaxing places in Scotland. Whether you’re going for the day, a weekend, or a longer escape, the Stobo experience will stay with you long after you leave. If you’re craving deep relaxation in truly elegant surroundings, make this your next spa destination. The staff at Stobo are some of the nicest I have ever dealt with, from the lovely ladies at reception to the bartender in the cocktail bar to the waiters at dinner. Nothing was too much hassle, and all requests were handled with grace and politeness. Which nowadays is rare. Stobo is the one place that has remembered and excelled at customer service.
One tip is to go to the bathroom in the lounge area near the spa reception, they have Japanese toilets that are an experience in themselves.
You will not be disappointed. I hope I have covered everything you should need to know about Stobo, and I hope you have a lovely trip.
