If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know autumn in Scotland is my absolute favourite season. There is nothing better than Crisp air, golden hillsides, muddy paws, and that excuse to dig out everything soft, warm, and practical. Welcome to cosy season, people, and it's time to get cosy, comfy and snuggly.
I love all things winter fashion, and I’ve teamed up with Cotton Traders to try three new pieces that have instantly earned a place in my regular rotation: the Fair Isle Crew Neck Jumper, Waterproof Highland Boots, and a 4-pack of Comfort Top Bamboo Socks, because socks are life.
Let’s just say… they’ve been through their paces already with muddy walks with my pups and a coffee shop visit. Being an outdoorsy gal at heart and a mountian biker, I spend alot of time outside and really love putting things through their paces to make sure you dont have to and get an honest review. Have I found the ultimate winter cosy boot?
Cotton Fair Isle Crew Neck Jumper — Cosy Classic with a Twist
You can’t beat a Fair Isle jumper when the weather turns. It’s one of those timeless patterns that instantly feels like winter without going full Christmas jumper. I am obsessed with it. It's like welcome autumn. The Cotton Traders Fair Isle Crew Neck Jumper (£38) has that perfect mix of soft cotton and festive charm.
Sizes available: 8–24 ( XS to 3XL)
Colours: Available in four colourways — Yellow gold, Light berry, duck egg and petrol (mine’s the light berry).
I am a size 6 and I got the size XS, which is slightly oversized, but I'd say a UK 8, so true to size and it fits just right, not snug, a little baggy, ideal for layering a thermal or shirt underneath. The cotton blend makes it breathable but still toasty, so I can wear it on long dog walks without overheating
I think the jumper is so versatile and looks good with leggings, jeans or trousers or even a skirt. It's just so stunning. The colour is even more beautiful in real life. With all the cotton trader's jumpers I have, they are just such good quility and wash so well.
Real-life test: Wore it under my waterproof jacket for a breezy Scottish hill walk with Mylo — stayed warm but not sweaty.
Style notes:
Looks fab with skinny jeans and boots
Try it half-tucked into a midi skirt and tights for a smarter day look
Waterproof Highland Boots — Style Meets Function
Now, let’s talk about boots. Living where I do, waterproof isn’t optional; it’s essential. The rain here isn't just straight up and down; it's sideways and never-ending. The Waterproof Highland Boots (£44) caught my eye because they look sturdy but stylish and, of course, cosy. I love the fur lining, and I can confirm they’ve handled everything from wet trails to muddy fields.
Sizes available: 4-12
Colours: Available in six colourways — black, dark sky, smoke grey, liac, dark khaki and warm brown.
The black colour goes with everything, from jeans to leggings. I wore them straight out of the box for a long dog walk (yes, risky move), and honestly, they were comfier than I expected. The grip is solid, no slipping on slick leaves or muddy tree roots, and they’ve kept my feet dry through puddles that Mylo decided were too tempting not to run through. I swear he loves to pull me into the muddiest puddles that dog.
After a week of wear, they’ve softened beautifully and look even better, slightly broken in. I’d say they’re ideal if you’re after a pair of everyday autumn boots that don’t scream “hiking gear” but still perform like it. Think a wellie x hiking boot cross and you're on the right track with these, and for this price, you can not go wrong.
Top tip: Treat them with a waterproof spray now and then to keep them looking their best.
Comfort Top Bamboo Socks — The Small Thing That Makes a Big Difference
I know, socks don’t usually get their moment in the spotlight unless you're a sock addict like me, but once you’ve worn bamboo, you’ll understand the hype. The 4-Pack Comfort Top Bamboo Socks (£12) are soft, breathable, and just that little bit luxurious. These are a sizes 4-7.
They don’t dig in around the ankles, which is a godsend on long walks, and they actually stay up (no bunching in boots!). I’ve worn them with my Highland Boots, of course, and they’ve kept my feet fresh all day. Bamboo fabric is brilliant for temperature control, cosy when it’s cold, cool when it’s mild, and it helps with odour, too. They are magic.
My Final Thoughts
Cotton Traders really hit that sweet spot between comfort and practicality with these three pieces. They’re classic, affordable, and perfect for real life, not just for photos.
Whether you’re off on a countryside walk, running errands, or curled up with a cuppa after a long ride, these are the kind of wardrobe staples that make you feel put together without trying too hard.
Would I recommend them? Absolutely. They’ve passed the Scottish weather, test, mud, rain, chill and all! I now want them all in differnt colours. Cotton traders just know how to make quility affordable and I love how inclusive their sizes are too.
