Shockingly, this has not stopped being at the top of my feed for so long it's not even funny. To the point I almost didn’t buy it. But if like me, you’ve been scrolling TikTok or any social media platform for that matter. Lately, you’ll have seen the hype around Wonderskin’s viral Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque. Beauty editors and influencers everywhere are calling it a life-proof lip product that is transfer-proof, waterproof, and smudge-proof, with a colour that lasts all day. Sounds too good to be true, right?

But does it actually work, or is it just another social media gimmick?  That I have fallen for? I just couldn't stop myself from ordering these. I tested two of their most popular shades XOXO (a bright berry pink) and Whimsical (a soft mauve-rose) to find out. Here’s my honest, no filter, no social media bias Wonderskin lip stain review.

The Application Process

The first time I tried it, I’ll admit it felt a bit odd. The formula goes on damp, kinda sticky and glossy, almost like a liquid lipstick.  In bright blue! After painting on a generous layer, I looked like I'd kissed a smurf. I left it for about 40 seconds, then wiped it away with a damp cotton pad. There was a slight tingle, but nothing uncomfortable, and peeling it away is strangely satisfying if you layer it up. If not, it comes off in little clumps. Make sure to wash it out of your sink. That's where I reccomend you apply this as it's messy. 

But once it’s gone, you’re left with a really natural-looking lip stain that feels weightless. If you want a stronger colour payoff, you can always apply a second layer or leave it on longer. 

My tip: give your lips a quick scrub first, otherwise the masque can cling to any dry patches.

The shade XOXO is a bright berry pink that instantly makes my face look more alive. It’s bold, playful, and the kind of colour that works beautifully for a night out or date night. It's more natural and day-to-night in style not over the top just pretty. 

On the other hand, Whimsical is much softer, a mauve-rose that’s perfect for everyday wear. I wore it for coffee runs, Zoom calls, and dog walks with Mylo, and it gave just the right amount of colour without feeling overdone. Add a clear gloss on top, and it looks polished but effortless.

Both shades feel natural, not heavy or sticky, which is why I can see myself wearing them again and again.

How Long Does Wonderskin Lip Stain Last?

This is where the product really impressed me. I tested XOXO on a full day out, starting with a cappuccino, then lunch, a mountain bike ride in the Scottish Hills, and dinner. By evening, the colour was still slightly there. It faded lightly, but in an even way, so no patchy lips. Which is very impressive. This would last all night long if you wanted. 

Whimsical lasted about 7–8 hours for me, which is still much longer than most lipsticks or glosses. Both shades came off easily with an oil-based makeup remover when I was ready. 

Both fade with time, and I have also tried reapplying, which works wonderfully to top things back up again. These are perfect for weddings, parties or big nights out. Imagine not having to worry about lipstick wearing or smudging.

It’s so lightweight that you almost forget you’re wearing anything at all, and I never had that cracked or flaky feeling you sometimes get with long-wear products. The Pros
What I loved most was how truly life-proof this stain is. XOXO genuinely lasted all day through coffee, cycling, and dinner without a single smudge. The formula feels comfortable thanks to the squalane, and I love that it’s cruelty-free. It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing lipstick at all, yet the colour payoff is beautiful and natural-looking.

The Cons
On the flip side, it’s not completely foolproof. The first time I applied it, I went outside the lip line and quickly learned this stain means business. A lip liner is definitely helpful for neat edges. It can also cling if your lips are dry, so prepping with a scrub and balm makes a big difference. I also found the deeper shade lasted longer than the lighter one. And while the price is higher than a high-street lipstick, the staying power makes it worthwhile.

How to Remove Wonderskin Lip Stain

Even though the Wonderskin stain is designed to be life-proof, it’s surprisingly easy to remove at the end of the day. I found the quickest way is to use an oil-based makeup remover with a cotton pad; the colour lifts off without scrubbing. A micellar water with oil also works well, and so does my CeraVe clenser. Super easy to remove, but it will just fade away too or if you're in a pinch, use a damp cloth.

My Review of Wonderskin Lip Stain

I’ve seen this all over TikTok and honestly thought it might be another overhyped viral product. Especially with how many people were selling it over there. It just felt so pushed in your face, and this can actually put me off a product. 

 But once I actually tried it, I was surprised by how much I liked it. It reminded me of a product I had as a teen. It was a lipstick that changed colour to blue with the cold, and we definitely didn't use it to skip out of cold cross-country runs. Shhh, dont tell.  

One of the first things I noticed straight away was the scent, which instantly reminded me of Parma Violet sweets. Remember them from childhood. It’s a light, powdery-sweet smell, but nothing overpowering, and once you’ve wiped off the stain, the scent completely disappears. But the smell is heavy. 

I was worried about how messy it would be, but it's such an easy application process. You have to get the hang of it. I was very sparring the first few times, and yes, I have felt a slight tingle occasionally, but nothing too bad and nothing like plumping lip glosses. Just remember to do it in the bathroom, as the little blue bit will get everywhere if you are like me. I think it's more of a wipe-off version than a peel-off. I loved how easy it is to get such a long-wearing lip colour with zero smudging. I dont think I have tried a lip product that is this natural looking and pigmented without any budging at all. The staying power is just incredible. 

I wore XOXO on a busy day, and by the evening, my lips still looked freshly done. That blows my mind. That never happens with normal lipstick!

Whimsical has become my day-to-day favourite because it’s so easy to wear. It gives me that healthy, natural flush of colour without looking like I’ve made a big effort. I’ve even worn it on no-makeup days just to feel a bit more polished and give it a really good test. 

I love that it feels weightless. Normally, with long-wear lip products, I’m aware of them all day, and as my lips get dry or tight, I hate that feeling. This just feels like my lips, but with colour. The only time I noticed it was when I caught my reflection and thought, “oh, my lips still look good!”

The only hiccup was the learning curve the first time. I didn’t scrub my lips first and Whimsical clung to a couple of dry patches. Lesson learned! Now I always exfoliate and pop on a bit of balm before using it, and the results are gorgeous. I have to say I can't see myself going back to normal lipstick with this in my life now, and that is high praise indeed. I am a Mac lippy girl normally.
