Everyone knows that when you’re traveling, any little inconvenience can ruin a full day of adventure. And the plot thickens when we’re talking about winter travels. Packing all the layers, adapting to different climates and finding things to do during a cold day can take a little bit of fun out of the holidays. But we’re here to help you out.

Cold season travels can be just as enjoyable as your summer adventures if you plan a little more ahead. In this article, we have some tips and tricks on how to make the most out of your winter holidays. Traveling in the cold can actually be amazing if you know what to expect. You’ll often find fewer crowds, cheaper prices, and beautiful views that only winter can give you. Think hot chocolate in a cozy cafe or a walk through a quiet snowy town. There’s something really special about that kind of trip when you just slow down and enjoy it. Read along and get ready for some snowy fun times.

Packing

When packing for a winter destination, you need to make sure your patience is at an all time high. Trying to fit all your cozy pieces in a small luggage is not the most pleasant thing, we know, but hear us out. The key here is to only pack one chunky piece in your luggage. Wear another cozy piece while traveling and keep the rest of your clothes thin but warm. Think about layering and undergarments that keep you warm without being too bulky.

While traveling, make sure you wear something like a high quality wool sweater or cardigan so that you don’t overheat on your journey, but you can be very cozy when you reach your destination. Consider layers for the journey as well, as they can save some space and give you a bit more variety. When packing bottoms, rely on thighs for extra warmth with minimal luggage space.

Fold your clothes as neatly as possible and you should be able to just about fit everything in. Don’t forget small things like gloves, scarves and hats since they keep you warm without taking up too much room. If you pack light and plan your outfits well, you’ll have more space for things you buy during your trip.

Activities

The most popular winter holiday activities usually involve some sort of sport. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, ice skating or sledge riding, winter sports are well loved. So of course, the first suggestion we have is to find a place that has a winter sports resort. This will allow you to be active on your holiday and make the most of the snowy season.

If you don’t like winter sports, and you don’t think it’s time to try something new, you can still enjoy the cold season. Try booking winter relaxation places that include spas in glass buildings, star gazing or saunas and cold baths. These relaxing resorts will offer you a winter vibe while allowing you to enjoy it from the comfort of a warm inside place.

You can also go to winter markets, taste local food or take a walk around town with a hot drink in hand. There’s something magical about exploring when everything’s covered in snow. Whether you’re out in the cold or wrapped up in a blanket by the fire, winter holidays can be just as exciting as summer ones. It’s a great way to enjoy the balance of the winter magic and the cozy warmth.

Escape or immerse

It took us a while to get to this point, but one crucial detail of your experience is to choose if you want to escape the winter or immerse yourself in it. The destination you choose can be one with a summer climate if you feel like you want to fully get away and see the sun again. Try finding some beach destinations and get your swimming suit ready for summer.

Make sure you give yourself time to adjust when you’re coming back, as your body can be extra sensitive to the cold after a week in the sun. If you want to immerse yourself in the season, consider destinations like Lapland or other northern resorts that offer the enhanced winter experience and make the season even more magical. Winter sports, adventures and outdoor activities will allow you to fully embrace the winter season and enjoy every bit of snow.

So take a look at some destinations and make sure you choose the season for your holiday right. Both choices are great, it really depends on your mood. You can even mix it up by spending a few days in the cold and ending your trip somewhere warm. No matter what you choose, plan a little ahead so your trip fits the kind of vibe you’re going for. That’s the secret to making your winter travels easy and fun.
