If you're over the age of 50, you may be wondering what you can do to support your beauty. The good news is that there are plenty of evidence-based hacks and tricks you can use to improve your skin, maintain your facial structure, and keep yourself healthy.

What do we advise?

Use sun protection every day

The first thing you want to do is prioritize using sun protection every day. Many women over forty apply broad-spectrum SPF as a habit to their face every day, even indoors or on cloudy days, and then they reapply it when needed. The purpose of this is to preserve collagen and reduce age spots. People who apply sunscreen religiously often have more youthful-looking skin.

Hydrate inside and out

Another beauty tip for women over the age of 50 is to hydrate inside and out.

Drinking enough water plumps the skin. You don't necessarily have to drink eight glasses a day, just make sure that you get a lot of liquid when you eat a meal and that you're eating high hydration foods like fruits and vegetables.

Externally, look for fragrance-free moisturizers. These provide a protective barrier for the skin to avoid moisture from escaping.

Ensure your teeth are fixed

Another thing you'll want to ensure is that your teeth are fixed. Ideally, you should be chewing and putting pressure on your jawbones every day.

If you're not because you have missing teeth, then go to a denture clinic. Fit new prosthetics. If you don't, it can lead to wasting of the jaw bone and a change in the shape of your face. It may also cause the lips to rotate inwards and for the jaw itself to look smaller.

Use antioxidants every day

As somebody over 50, you also want to use antioxidants every day. These are vital for keeping your skin tone healthy and making you look bright and bushy in the morning.

The main purpose of antioxidants is to fight free radicals in the body. However, they can also signal to your cells to make more of their own internal antioxidants, which further increases the power of antioxidant antibodies.

The best antioxidants are from foods like green tea and turmeric. You can also get foods that support collagen production.

Use retinoids at night

If you're not using retinoids at night, then do so. These can improve cell turnover and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. Many women over 50 like to start by applying retinoids to their skin two or three nights a week, and as their skin becomes more used to it, they increase the frequency and dosage. If retinoids aren't an option for you, then also explore the possibility of using peptides. These are ideal for firming up mature skin.

Eat for skin health

Finally, you'll want to eat more of the types of foods that benefit your skin. Leafy greens, fatty fish, nuts, and berries are all beneficial. Do what health advisors recommend and eat the rainbow.
