My top 5 must see New York attractions

Is it just me or has this year got you more intent on travelling again? I am ready to board a plane and go on an adventure. I miss everything about travel from the planning to the actual trip itself. There is one place that just won't get out of my head. New York. The big apple, the city that never sleeps add in more stereotypical new york serotypes. But I love New York and I am not ashamed to say it loud and proud.

I have taken a trip to New York once a few years ago and I found myself daydreaming about it and I think there is only one remedy isn't there? It's time to plan out another trip to New York.

So today I am going to chat about all things New York and what I plan on doing on my trip. I won't bore you with the actual travel planning that's a post for another day. I want to talk about the exciting stuff the stuff where memories are made the stuff that has me daydreaming and giving me itchy feet to board a plane and set off to the bright lights and hustle and bustle.

Before I get into the nitty-gritty all of these should be booked in advance to save you spending a lot of your day queueing to get in. Before going to New York it is always worth checking out what deals are available as these attractions can be pricey. It is worth shopping around and looking at getting New York Explorer Pass to save you some money. The more you save the more you have for shopping and gifts, right?

My top 5 must-sees New York attractions

1. Empire state building

This for me is a must-do. I am actually scared of height but I wouldn't miss this for the world. I am currently looking at a canvas photo we had printed of myself and my husband standing at the top of the viewing area overlooking the amazing Manhattan skyline.

It was a dull winter day when we went to the Empire state building and the views were still mind-blowing. I could have spent hours up there watching the city below. I have on my list that This trip I would like to go at night. If that is possible. I think looking down on all the lights would be pretty special.

2. The statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

This one is for two reasons. The actual statue itself but also I really enjoyed the boat trip around liberty island and Ellis Island. The history you learn on the trip is really interesting.

The actual statue is a lot smaller than the tv and movies would have you believe. The statue of liberty is over 130 years old and is a tribute to freedom. Designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi a french sculptor as a gift to America to mark the 100 anniversary of independence from the UK. I have actually seen both of these statures there is a smaller replica version he sculpted in Paris France.

3. Broadway

I mean need I say more? I trained in acting and I have loved the theatre for as long as I can remember. I love watching different types of shows. I was lucky enough when we were in New York to go to the opening night of Catch me if you can. We just turned up at the box office and there were two seats left going at a discount rate. We were front row for the show and there were so many celebrities in the audience.

Like going to the Westend in London broadway can not be missed it is a very special and magical place to be. I can not recommend seeing a show enough when you go to New york. I know I will try to squeeze in a show or two when I am there.

4. American Museum of Natural History

I know when most people think of New York they think of the shopping and food but for me, I love all the museums and the American Museum of natural history is one of my all-time favourite Museums. If you have seen the film night in the museum or grew up watching friends you will already know a bit about this wonderful place. It is crammed packed with information and amusing exhibits to go and see.

There are so many artefacts that you can only see in this museum. It is also a lot bigger than you think so if you do fancy a trip make sure you plan in advance to really make the most of your time here. If like me you love to learn you can not miss this one.

5.  9/11 memorial and museum.

I have visited and paid my respects at this sight. I was there prior to the memorial and the museum was completed. So many of us remember where we were and what we were doing when we found out that the twin towers had been attacked. Even writing this I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

It was the day the whole world changed. It was a day we all looked on with disbelief and horror and it was the day so many families lost loved ones, their lives were changed and could never be put back together. I want to go back and see the museum and again pay my respects to the victims and the emergency service workers and new yorkers who came together to help countless victims of the tragedy.

New York is a very special and unique city. It has everything you could want in a city break. It has amazing food shopping and attractions. It is wonderful to just spend time in new york and take in the surrounding. I know I can not wait to set about making more plans to return to New York and make more memories there. I really hope you have enjoyed this little guide to my top 5 must-sees new york attractions.
