Is laser hair removal worth the hype? - MissLJBeauty

Is laser hair removal worth the hype?

The last two years have been hard going. We have all been inside more than we would like and we have all had time to reflect on life and what we would like. I have found myself focusing more on what I want in all aspects of my life. This includes beauty. I have decided that this year is the year I finally make an informed decision on laser hair removal.

I have been toying with the idea of having professional laser hair removal. Not the at home kind the proper go to a clinic and have multiple session kind. You read about it online, you hear all your favourite celebrities having it.

I mean take the Kardashian for example, they even filmed to process for Keeping up with the Kardashian. Laser hair removal has become the must-have treatment for the stars. It is the one treatment they will all admit to and doesn't have the taboo that cosmetic surgery has. So today we are going to look into laser hair removal and decide if it is worth the hype.

Why I want laser hair removal.

So why do I want it? I am a mountain biker I spend a lot of my time in shorts and t-shirts. I like to wear dresses and shorts in the summer and I find shaving or using hair removal cream a chore. Am I the only one who just hates shaving? I find it so annoying and if I am honest put it off as much as I can in winter. Come on, don't you? I do however like to be hair free so at the moment shaving is an annoying reality of life.

Whilst we are talking about shaving it is also expensive. Razors are getting more and more expensive every time I buy them and I don't think they stay as sharp as they once did. I seem to have to change my blades a lot. On average we spend £690 on hair removal products a year. Well, that is what I spend on razors, shaving creams, waxing etc. Oh my gosh, when you put it like that and you see the cold hard cash it's shocking especially when the laser hair removal is long-lasting and fuse free.

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a procedure used on the skin to remove unwanted hair. It can be done on the face, legs, arms, chest, underarms and bikini area. It is performed in a clinic by a qualified professional. Who uses a special laser, which targets the hair follicle in its active growth phase. The laser beam is made up of precisely controlled pulses of energy. This is absorbed by the melanin in our hair and reaches the active hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. This energy heats up the hair all the way to the root and destroys it. It does this safely without affecting the skin or tissue.

Laser hair removal is a more permanent form of hair removal and you can see results from your first session. It has been proven to give long-lasting results and is relatively inexpensive compared to other forms of hair removal.

Where?

Now, this is super important this is not something you want to get wrong. Going to the right clinic makes a massive difference for a few reasons. Firstly there are different and new lasers hitting the market all the time. There are with everything, good and bad clinics you need to go to a clinic you can trust.

I personally am going to head to London for my treatment. It is after all the biggest city here in the UK and it has the best and most up to date clinics. I did so much research on the best laser hair removal clinics in London.

You all know I love to research things, so I am confident that the clinic I have chosen. Which is the New York Laser clinic. They have three clinics in London and have been established since 2004. They offer the best and most up to date technology using the gold standard Candela laser which was designed for optimism result with minimal downtime and with no discomfort. The highly trained Aestheticians specialise in all skin types. They offer free consultation and have 60% off laser hair removal packages.

What does a laser hair treatment actually entail?

First, you need to book a consultation with your chosen clinic. It is very important to go and have a consultation. This is where you can speak to your aesthetician about the area you want to have treated. Also for the aesthetician to access the area to be treated and for you to have a patch test to make sure you can have the procedure. This is also so that they can tailor the treatment to your individual needs in a safe and controlled way based on your skin type.

They will explain what the treatment is to you and what you are to do. I know if you are thinking about having more intimate area lasers you might feel embarrassed but the aesthetician is a professional and they have seen it all before, so there is no need to feel embarrassed they will put you at ease. You will normally need between 6 to 8 sessions of laser hair removal for the best result. This will be discussed in your consultation.

What to expect on your first treatment.

I know I wanted to know what was going to happen and what I was to do. This will all be explained in your consultation but you have to shave the chosen treatment area before you arrive. In the first treatment. You will have the area for treatment cleansed and marked out on your body with a soft pencil this is to ensure no area is missed. Once the laser is ready the handpiece will be applied to the skin. This is where you might feel a bit of tingling sensation or slight discomfort.  The treatment time will depend on how many or how big the area is that you are having treated this can be as quick as 5 minutes.

My decision

I am really excited to move forward on my hair free journey with all the research I have done and I am excited to be hair-free for summer 2022. I hope this has given you food for thought and you might consider laser hair removal yourself.
