Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen SPF: Review & Thoughts

I have been using this product on and off for a couple of years and I don't really know why I haven't written about it to be honest. I think it's so routine that I forget about it. I’ve got to say, I’m picky when it comes to sunscreen. As someone with combo skin who wears makeup most days and spends a lot of time outdoors mountain biking, I need an SPF that works, doesn’t clog pores, and plays nice under foundation.  I remember the hype when this first came out, and I know I had to try it. I'm talking about The Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen SPF 30. I know I first bought it for going to Canada, and that was a couple of years ago. I think it was a new product at the time.

I believe we all need to wear more SPF in our day-to-day lives, and I am definitely trying my hardest to even wear it on days I'm just in the house. I know this one is only SPF30 and I would prefer a SPF50, but I reach for this time and time again.

Here’s my full review, how I’ve been using it, and whether it’s worth adding to your skincare routine.

What is the Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen?

It’s a chemical sunscreen that combines broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection with hydrating skincare ingredients, all in one lightweight formula. It’s designed to give your skin a dewy finish, rather than the usual chalky or greasy look some sunscreens leave behind. Think of it as sun protection meets hydrating serum. Its about making your skin look good whilst protecting it too.

How Does the Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen Work?

This sunscreen uses chemical UV filters to absorb and scatter harmful rays before they damage your skin. But what makes it different is the addition of polyglutamic acid, which acts like a moisture magnet, keeping your skin plump and hydrated throughout the day.

What Are the Key Ingredients in This Sunscreen?

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s inside the formula:

  • Polyglutamic Acid – Holds 4x more moisture than hyaluronic acid; keeps skin hydrated

  • Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Octocrylene, Ethylhexyl Salicylate – UV filters for broad-spectrum protection

  • Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, Saccharomyces Ferment – Help support the skin barrier

  • Purple Sweet Potato, Purple Rice, Purple Tea – Antioxidant-rich plant extracts

  • Caprylyl Glycol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Propanediol – Help with texture and preservation

  • Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone – Create a smooth, non-greasy feel on skin

What Makes This Sunscreen Different from Others?

Unlike many SPF 30 and 50 products, this doesn’t feel heavy or sticky. The texture is smooth, the finish is glowy but not greasy, and it hydrates while protecting. If you love the idea of a makeup primer with SPF, this ticks that box too. It works so well under makeup.

How Effective Is the SPF in the Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen?

SPF 30 offers 93% protection from UVB rays, which is more than enough for everyday use if you’re not sunbathing or out in harsh midday sun. I’ve used it on bike rides, walks, and under makeup all day it holds up well when reapplied. But if you are out on a realy high UV day reach for the spf 50.

What Does SPF 30 Mean for Daily Protection?

It means your skin is protected from 93% of UVB radiation, which causes sunburn and skin damage. It’s ideal for daily wear, especially if you’re also using antioxidants or skin-repairing serums underneath.

Can the Inkey List Sunscreen Protect Against UVA and UVB Rays?

Yes! This is a broad-spectrum sunscreen, meaning it shields your skin from both UVA (ageing rays) and UVB (burning rays). That’s non-negotiable in my routine. You might think this is a silly question but some don't.

Is It Necessary to Reapply the Sunscreen Regularly?

Absolutely. Like any SPF, you’ll need to reapply every 2 hours, yes, you read that right. especially if you’re sweating, in water, or outside all day. The texture is light enough to layer without pilling, which is a win.

What Are the Benefits of Using Polyglutamic Acid in Sunscreen?

This is where it gets interesting. Polyglutamic acid helps:

  • Hydrate skin deeply (even more than hyaluronic acid)

  • Improve elasticity and texture

  • Smooth fine lines and lock in moisture

It acts like a skin-plumping filter, giving your complexion a healthy, radiant finish.

How Does Polyglutamic Acid Hydrate the Skin?

you know I love researching for articles and learning, so here's how it works. It forms a thin film on the surface of the skin that prevents water loss, helping your skin stay hydrated and bouncy all day. It’s especially good for dry or dehydrated skin types.

Can It Improve the Overall Texture of My Skin?

Yes, if used consistently. The hydrating effect can help reduce rough patches and give your skin a more refined, smoother appearance over time. I know in summer my skin always looks better and I think it's down to the amount of moisture from my sunscreen.

Who Is the Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen Suitable For?

Honestly? Pretty much everyone. It’s:

  • Lightweight

  • Non-greasy

  • Fragrance-free

  • Packed with hydration

Great for normal, dry, combo, and even oily skin types.

What About Those with Oily or Sensitive Skin?

If you’re oily, you might want to pair it with a matte base or powder, but it’s not excessively shiny. For sensitive skin, the lack of alcohol and fragrance is a plus. Always patch test first, though!

Does the Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen Leave a White Cast?

Nope. No white cast at all. It blends in clear, which is a huge deal especially for deeper skin tones. There nothing worse than that chalky white cast left by some suncreams.

What Ingredients Help Prevent White Cast?

The use of chemical filters like ethylhexyl salicylate and octocrylene means it absorbs into the skin instead of sitting on top like physical sunscreens often do.

How Does It Perform Under Makeup?

Beautifully. It creates a smooth, dewy base, almost like a hydrating primer. My foundation and concealer sit nicely on top, no pilling or patchiness. It gives that fresh, glowing skin vibe. I think this is one of my favourite things under my makeup and it looks good on its own on a non-makeup day too. Dewy and clean girl vibes.

What Are Online Reviews Saying About the Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen?

What Are the Pros and Cons Mentioned by Users?

Pros:

  • Hydrating, dewy finish

  • No white cast

  • Layers well with makeup

  • Affordable price point

Cons:

  • Might be too dewy for very oily skin

  • Needs regular reapplication for full protection

How Does It Compare to Other Sunscreens on the Market?

Compared to other SPF 30 and SPF 50 face products, this one holds up well. It’s similar in texture to Glow Recipe Watermelon SPF or Supergoop Glowscreen, but at a more budget-friendly price. The ingredients are brilliant for this price point of £15, and your skin will glow.

How to Incorporate the Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen Into Your Skincare Routine

Should It Be Applied Before or After Moisturiser?

Apply it after your moisturiser and before makeup. If your moisturiser is rich, you might even skip it and go straight to SPF if your skin feels hydrated enough. This is a hydrating formula so bear that in mind.

Can It Be Used as a Primer for Makeup?

Yes I used it all the time as a primer and it does a great job. My makeup stays on well, and the dewy base gives skin that "just had a facial" look.

What Other Products Work Well with This Sunscreen?

  • The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm – gentle first cleanse

  • Polyglutamic Acid Serum – for extra hydration boost

  • Hyaluronic Acid – great to layer underneath

  • Squalane or lightweight moisturiser – seals everything in

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for a lightweight, hydrating, non-greasy sunscreen that doubles as a makeup primer and gives your skin a natural glow, then The Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen SPF 30 is a solid choice. It's affordable, effective, and doesn't compromise on comfort or wearability. But if you are not a fan of the glowy dewy look, I would give polyglutamic acid dewy sunscreen SPF30 a miss. But my dry and dehydrated skin in summer really likes this formula, and I haven't been sunburned when using this. I used it on my face and neck and have even used it on my legs and arms when I forgot my actual suncream. I find the bottle lasts a long time and it's just great value for money.

It’s earned a spot in my daily routine, and I’ll definitely be repurchasing especially for those sunny days on and off the trail.
